SAHARA PARTNERS exists to collaborate with the Saharawi to empower and equip them to sustainably develop their communities.
Our Story.
Our development center began in 2020 with the purpose of empowering and equipping the Saharawi. The vision of Sahara Partners is “relationship-driven community development.” This vision grew out of several of our board members traveling to the refugee camps in Western Algeria and observing first hand both the plight and the ingenuity of the people. The name of our organization Sahara Partners stems from our core observation that the Saharawi have already been engaged in development work for their own people; we are merely coming alongside them. When translated into Arabic, the word “partnership” can also mean “companion” and implies a close relationship—the one that we want to have as we work hand in hand with the Saharawi. The Saharawi have a proverb, “one hand doesn’t clap,” which refers to the reality you cannot clap with only one hand, you need two. We want to be that other hand.
